About Us
Aketa wasn’t born in a workshop.
It was born in the heart of a woman who chose to rebuild herself. It began as a creative refuge and a platform for independence after a profound breakup. At its core was the need to mother with presence—free from rigid schedules, without giving up her passion for design, research, and the traditions of her ancestors.
What started as a university thesis—exploring true sustainability in textiles and natural leathers—grew into a brand with soul, shaped by the hands of a mother who, while healing, was stitching a future for her children.
The first spark of creativity came at age seven, when Fernanda crafted a handbag using a suede scrap and a foot-pedal sewing machine. More than just an object, it became a symbol—of determination, creativity, and self-love.
Her parents instilled in her a deep respect for animals, a love for nature, the value of working with her hands, a boundless curiosity, and a joy for art, dance, culture, and intellectual growth.
Aketa is the meeting point between the personal and the collective—between ethical design and a life fully lived.
Yes, it’s a brand. But more than that, it’s a declaration of freedom, of conscious motherhood, and a deep commitment to the world.
History
Aketa By Fernanda Guáqueta is a Colombian brand with 13 years of experience in the fashion sector. Focusing on research and development, clean technologies, and sustainability. We transform food industry waste through a dedicated and conscientious process, achieving synergy between design, engineering, and craftsmanship, resulting in luxury pieces that are enjoyed with all the senses.
AKETA is the reflection of a new vision, where conscious design, rigorous research, and genuine sustainability intertwine to honour our origin. From its studio in Bogotá, AKETA transforms natural leather into unique pieces of leather goods, garments, and objects, born from the meeting between ancestral knowledge, the exploration of new materials, and the art of purposeful living.
Each collection is the result of a research and development process that incorporates eco-innovative practices such as the use of fish leather and reforestation with native species for vegetable tanning processes, integrating clean technologies, traceability, and a strong commitment to decent work, the SDGs, and our participation in the ZEYZEY Alegría Agreement. At AKETA, design is both an ethical and aesthetic act: each piece tells a story of balance between nature, knowledge, and timeless beauty.
